Expat Pass Proxy "Tips and Tricks"

Here are a few recommendations to help you get the most out of your use of the Expat Pass London proxy.

If you have any recommendations or feedback for us, you can send us your ideas using our contact form. We're always happy to hear from our users!

Tip 1: Check your IP address

Since a proxy changes your Internet Protocol, or "IP" address, the best way to check to see if the proxy is working is to see what your current IP address is. This is as easy as visiting http://www.whatismyip.com/. WhatismyIP.com will display your current IP address on your screen.

If your IP address is 94.76.238.115 (United Kingdom), then the proxy is working.

Tip 2: Use Two Browsers

Some users prefer to switch the proxy on and off. You can do this by deactivating it, or you can use two browsers, one configured with the proxy, and the other without the proxy. For example, you could install the proxy on your Firefox or Safari browser, but not on your Internet Explorer browser, then simply switch between browsers when you want to use the proxy or surf without the proxy.

You can download a copy of the Mozilla Firefox browser from here.
And Internet Explorer is here.

Tip 3: If You're Surfing Websites Hosted in the Same Country Where You're Located (Like Turkey), Turn Off the Proxy

Our proxy takes you directly from Turkey (or whatever country you're in) to London before launching you off to the Web. So if you're in Turkey (or another country), streaming or downloading content from a website on a server in the same country, you might experience some slowness. That's because you're going to the UK, connecting to the UK proxy, and then being routed back into Turkey or your country location. Simply turning off the proxy should speed things up.

Tip 4: Problems Setting Up Windows Live Messenger

Because windows messenger uses the same connection stack as Internet Explorer when you configure Internet Explorer to use a Proxy. If you use another browser, or Windows Live Messenger is otherwise unable to logon, (You will probably get the error message 80048820), you'll need to configure Live Messenger separately. You'll find the instructions here:
